Rosacea Treatment

Terrasil Itch Rash and Pain Relief

If the individual is not bothered by symptoms, or they are very mild, rosacea may not require any special treatment.

There is no cure for rosacea, but the first step in treating rosacea is to learn what triggers redness. Not all triggers are the same for everyone. Once triggers are recognized, people suffering from rosacea should learn ways to avoid them. Avoidance may not work for all cases of rosacea, but self-treatment is a good place to start.

Initial treatments to try when suffering from rosacea are:

  • Wearing sunscreen
  • Protecting the face from cold and wind with a scarf or ski mask
  • Avoid touching the face
  • Use a gentle, non irritating cleanser
  • Avoid products that contain alcohol or abrasive ingredients

More severe cases or extremely bothersome symptoms may require help from a primary care doctor or dermatologist. A doctor may prescribe an antibiotic pill, cream, gel, or lotion. Antibiotics will help subside inflammation. These prescriptions are usually for short-term use, as longer-term use of antibiotics is not recommended due to side effects that may occur. Acne medications, may also help reduce redness. These medications will need to be used with extreme caution. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant are generally not prescribed these powerful, and sometimes harmful medications.

Surgical methods may be used to remove thickening skin or enlarged blood vessels. For these procedures a doctor will perform laser surgery or electrosurgical techniques to improve appearance and reduce redness.

Alternative medicines have also proved beneficial for some. Ingredients that may help with rosacea are colloidal silver, emu oil, laurelwood, oregano oil, and vitamin K. Consult your doctor before taking any new supplements or trying something new that may impact your health.
